Science Warehouse was co-founded by David Hames and Jonathan Betts who both worked at the University of Leeds in 2000.
After noticing inefficiencies when ordering research reagents, David came up with the simple idea of using the web to automate and optimise the process – hence the name ‘Science Warehouse’.
Together, David and Jonathan drafted a business plan and managed to secure multi-million pound funding from the Forward Innovation Fund for their spend management eCatalogue – and the rest was history.
This wasn’t to say that the company didn’t face times of hardship. The dot com bubble burst whilst the company was forming making it incredibly hard for the fledgling company, but with support and perseverance, Science Warehouse became one of the fastest growing companies in the UK e-business software industry.
